Our Mission

Amatsiko means hope

In Rukiga, the local language in Kabale Uganda, Amatsiko means hope. Amatsiko Preparatory School provides hope for children who otherwise would not be able to afford an education. Although, Uganda provides universal primary education for all children, many families are unable to afford the hidden costs of school uniforms, shoes, books and supplies. These seemingly small expenses create insurmountable barriers.

Over half our students are orphans and all come from families who struggle to meet their most basic needs. Imagine families with six to eight children living off less than $1 US a day, where survival must take precedence over education. Despite these hardships, our students’ determination to learn shines as bright as ever.

Amatsiko creates a safe haven for growth

Amatsiko Preparatory School is more than a school, it is a sanctuary. We are a community-based organization, supported by local churches and community leaders, as well as international partners. Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment combined with high-quality education free of cost that enables our students to blossom.

At Amatsiko, our students receive not only an excellent education, that includes all core subjects — Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Religion — but also holistic support that addresses their social, emotional and physical well-being. Amatsiko provides:

  • Nutritious Meals: Three balanced meals a day to fuel young minds

  • Mentoring: A safe haven to process past trauma, build lifelong friendships, and receive support

  • Living Arrangements: For students who need housing, placement with a guardian family to ensure a safe place to call home

Amatsiko students become leaders and positive change-makers

At Amatsiko, we don’t just focus on exam results. From the first step into our classrooms, Amatsiko students begin a journey toward a brighter future – a future filled with hope, promise and potential. Our true success lies in how our students grow into compassionate leaders and positive change-makers in their communities.
