Our Future

Dreaming bigger together

Amatsiko Preparatory School was founded on a powerful dream: that every child deserves access to quality education, nutritious food, basic healthcare, and secure housing. For over 400 children, we are turning that dream into reality every day! But our aspirations extend even further.

Expanding our curriculum

At Amatsiko, we teach all five core subjects – math, English, social studies, science and religion -- and we hope to expand our curriculum to include:

  • Library: Fostering a love for reading and learning, our newly established library offers students storybooks and novels, something most Ugandan children do not have access to. We hope to add more books, both fiction and non-fiction, and to eventually add computers.

  • Arts and Sports Programs: We envision enriching our students’ lives through creative and athletic pursuits.

  • Science Labs: We hope to bring science to life by using microscopes and studying nature.

  • Skills Training: From livestock care to sewing, our goal is to broaden the skills training we offer our students, empowering them with tools for self-sufficiency and income generation after graduation.

Increasing our enrollment

From humble beginnings nearly 20 years ago, Amatsiko has grown to serve over 400 students. Yet, many more children in our community still need our support. We are committed to expanding our enrollment to reach those in need.

Scholarship fund for secondary school

Currently, about 90% of our students cannot continue to secondary school due to financial constraints. We aspire to create a scholarship fund to support exceptional students, allowing them to pursue their academic dreams and further their ability to become leaders in their communities.

Specialized education for children with disabilities

Our commitment extends to serving children with disabilities, who face severe stigma and isolation in Africa. We hold community workshops to raise awareness that disability is not inability, working to shift cultural perceptions. Our dream is to establish a specialized education program tailored to the unique needs of these children, increasing their enrollment and support within Amatsiko.

Our Big Dream: A New School Building

Currently, Amatsiko operates on rented land that limits our potential. With no running water or electricity, we make the best of our situation, but we aspire for more. A few years ago, generous supporters helped us acquire a beautiful plot of land adjacent to our current location—a significant step towards our dream of a permanent home. Our vision includes building a state-of-the-art school complete with:

  • Classrooms with glass windows and electricity

  • Restrooms with running water

  • A modern kitchen and dining area

  • Dormitories for students in need

  • Sports facilities

  • Demonstration space for livestock and gardens

The total cost for this ambitious project ranges from $200,000 to $500,000, depending on the extent of the build-out. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, we first aim to raise funds to reliably cover our monthly operating costs. We are seeking 65 individuals, families, or organizations to contribute $50 per month ($600 annually). Once we achieve this goal, we will launch a capital campaign for our new building.
